Outdoor Toy Ideas In Time For Spring

admin April 24th, 2010

Unpack the outdoor toys, get out the camping gear, hang out the bird feeders – spring is in the air and it is time to get outside! After the long cold winter cooped up inside, we can all do with a little vitamin D and a good old stretch and there is no better way to do this than to have some fun in the sun.

Is your outdoor toy collection looking a bit lacklustre? You are in luck; as we have compiled a list of ten fun outdoor toys to get your imagination going. These include:

1. Trampolines. Ever since the trampoline was first introduced to global audiences by its creators, George Nissen and Larry Griswold back in 1934, adults and children alike have been enjoying hours of bouncing fun. Originally intended as a training tool for tumblers and gymnasts, the pair soon realised the trampoline’s commercial value as an outdoor toy and began marketing it as such. And best of all – there is no need to dig a great big hole in your backyard. Most toy stores now carry collapsible trampolines that can be folded up for easy storage when it is not in use.

2. Skates, rollerblades and skateboards. Skating is a great way to stimulate hand-eye coordination and children enjoy it to boot. These fun outdoor toys come in a great variety of colours and styles, so shop around until you find a pair your child will enjoy.

3. Play centres. Adored by the preschool crowd, play centres are also a great way to keep your backyard tidy. Having a whole bunch of separate toys lying around can quickly get messy, that is why a toy centre is such a wonderful idea – it combines a variety of toys without taking up too much space. A handy tip: Little Tikes outdoor toys have a great range of affordable play centres that include the Climb ‘n Slide Castle, as well as the cute Turtle Sandbox. The latter even comes with a lid that you can close so that the sand doesn’t get wet in the event of an April shower.

4. Balls, bats and Frisbees. Heading down to the beach? Don’t forget the beach bats! And what about a Frisbee to keep the youngsters busy while you catch up on your tan? Frisbee no longer has to be a predictable, repetitive game either. Add a bit of excitement to your game with the Nite Ize FlashFlight Blue LED Frisbee. This fun outdoor toy boasts LED illumination and it is waterproof, making it

perfect for swimming pool games.

5. Fort building materials. There is nothing like a great, big DIY project to pull the family together, so why not build a tree house this summer? Pick out a nice sturdy tree, get a plan off the internet and Bob is your proverbial uncle. Not lucky enough to have a great big tree in your yard? Then simply build a fort. Materials that will come in useful include rope, cold glue, hard board/chip board, plastic sheeting, water soluble PVA paint and a staple gun. (Please note that the use of a staple gun should always be supervised by a responsible adult.)

And there you have it – a few ideas that should spice up your outdoor toy collection in no time at all. What are you waiting for? Make a list and head out to buy those fun outdoor toys right now!

Finding Trampolines Sale Today

admin April 22nd, 2010

Do you remember when you were a kid and you dreamed that you could fly? Do you then remember flying—or, at least temporarily flying—while you bounced up and down on your trampoline? If you have children at home, there will come a time when every child asks for his or her very own trampoline. One of the big questions, though, is just where can you find a trampoline to buy?

There are many trampolines on the market, believe it or not, and you can easily find them either brand new or previously used. Trampolines are a great addition to any family back yard and are fantastic for keeping your kids busy for hours and hours on end (which I’ m sure many of us parents can really appreciate!).

One recommendation I personally have when purchasing a trampoline is to purchase one new rather than an older model. Used trampolines not only may not last all too long after you bring it home, but they may no longer be safe. The good news is that you will be able to find a trampoline for your child that fits your budget.

So where can you find a trampoline? Almost all major retailers across the country either sell trampolines, or definitely know someone who does. Try some toy stores, especially large chain toy stores like Toys R Us in the United States and Canada, or Wal-Mart and Costco. To find the best price on the best trampoline, start looking to purchase around the end of summer to early fall; this is when you should be able to find most outdoor equipment on sale. You may even be able to find a trampoline in the winter, granted that they were not all sold by the end of fall.

Checking out your local newspaper should also yield good results when on your trampoline hunt. Do be warned, however: this is considered a “large item” and also a desirable item, so if you see a trampoline in the newspaper be sure to call as soon as you can. If you don’t, you definitely risk it no longer being available, even if you put off calling for only a few hours.

Ask any friends and neighbors if they know of someone who is selling their trampoline, or even visit some local gym centers and play groups—they often have the “inside scoop” on such things.

Maybe the best place of all to find as many places that sell trampolines that you can is the good ol’ Internet. You can even purchase it online and quite possibly for a better price t

han your nearby retailer. One word of caution, though: be sure to pay attention to any shipping costs. Ask if they offer free shipping, or if not, if they have a “ship to store” option. Take into account just how large and heavy a trampoline is (even in a box!). The shipping fees for a trampoline can easily exceed $100, which can cause you to lose out on any sort of savings you would otherwise have had.

The average trampoline will cost you about $200 USD. This depends on the quality and the size, however; you can find trampolines both costing less than and more than that price. Some trampolines also have “side protectors” included (if they do not, strongly consider making that a separate purchase to keep your children safe).

The Ups And Downs Of Bouncing

Some toys have their ups and downs, but none more so than the trampoline. It used to be the case that trampolines were limited to schools, gymnasiums and the seaside theme parks, but in recent years there have been miniature trampolines available for children, and even more recently much larger trampolines which have been almost Continue Reading »
